Tecnam P2010 H3PS Hybrid Aircraft Takes to the Skies for the First Time – A Milestone in Green Aviation
Tecnam P2010 H3PS is the first General Aviation aircraft with a parallel hybrid configuration to take flight, representing a major milestone on the aviation industry’s journey towards de-carbonization and R&D on alternative powertrains.
Capua, Italy,– Tecnam Aircraft, in collaboration with Rolls-Royce and Rotax specialized teams, successfully flew the new P2010 H3PS hybrid aircraft for the first time on December 21st, 2021, at precisely 3:54 pm CET. The Permit to Fly was issued by ENAC, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority.
The flight was performed by Tecnam’s Chief Experimental Test Pilot Lorenzo De Stefano, with Tecnam, Rolls-Royce and Rotax Teams on the ground assisting in this historic moment.
Tecnam P2010 H3PS is powered by a 104kW Rotax 915 IS engine coupled with a 30kW Rolls-Royce electric motor, totaling 134kW (180hp) powertrain in a fully integrated parallel hybrid configuration. As such, this four-seat aircraft is first of its kind.
According to Tecnam Aircraft’s R&D Director Fabio Russo, the H3PS successful flight test demonstration marks a major milestone on the aviation industry’s journey towards de-carbonization and R&D on alternative powertrains.
“Though H3PS is not intended for market purposes, our successful flight tests demonstrate that hybrid powertrain, with combustion engine coupled with an electric motor, can bear the same useful load of the traditional 180hp combustion engine,” said Russo.
H3PS, which stands for “High Power High Scalability Aircraft Hybrid Powertrain”, is a project funded under the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. Launched in 2018, the project has reached its objectives. With H3PS’ success, Tecnam Aircraft and project partners have validated the aircraft’s scalability potential, lower emissions, state of the art power management technology, building a viable launchpad for future green aircraft models.
Commenting on the future developments, Tecnam’s Managing Director Giovanni Pascale Langer stated that the company will continue to focus on driving the green transition in aviation.

“In December 2021 ENAC issued the permit to fly, for research and development purposes” – commented the Director General of ENAC, Alessio Quaranta – “to the first Made in Italy General Aviation aircraft powered by hybrid propulsion system (electric – unleaded fuel): the Tecnam P2010 H3PS. It deals with an important technological innovation in favor of savings in consumption and emissions. ENAC actively participated this challenge in developing the new propulsion system and its integration within the Tecnam P2010 airframe, in line with Authority commitment towards a Sustainable Aviation future”.

TECNAM APPOINTS NEW CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER
Volodymyr Rizzitano will be working closely with customers for regular updates.
CAPUA – TECNAM has appointed Volodymyr Rizzitano as the new Customer Service Manager for TECNAM worldwide. Volodymyr Rizzitano will be responsible for all service activities, primarily maintaining customer satisfaction by providing problems-solving support to final customers and to the network of Tecnam Service Centers worldwide.
Volodymyr was born in Ukraine, in 1993. He moved to Italy where he graduated as Aeronautical Expert at Polotecnico Fermi Gadda. Passionate about aviation since a young age, he joined Tecnam’s Technical Support Department in 2014. From there, he became the Engineering Manager of Tecnam Maintenance Organization and subsequently Aircraft Delivery Manager building strong relationships with customers. He holds a PPL from Tecnam’s Flight Academy and speaks several languages including Russian, English, Italian, Ukrainian, and Polish.

FIRST P2012 SENTINEL SMP LANDS IN TAIWAN FOR APEX FLIGHT ACADEMY
TAIPEI (Taiwan) — The first of two new Tecnam P2012 SMP aircraft for Apex Flight Academy arrived at Taoyuan International Airport on November 16 afternoon, a milestone in the company’s quest to expand its horizons. The 9 seater aircraft took off in Capua Italy and arrived in Taipei after 6600 NM, with 10 fuel stops via Russia, Siberia and South Korea, facing icing temperatures as low as -24 degrees Celsius.
Apex, the only professional flight training organization in Taiwan, will expand its operations with the multi-mission capabilities of the P2012 Sentinel SMP performing: passenger transportation, air ambulance missions, sightseeing tours, parachute jumping, aerial photography and more.
The Italian-made P2012 aircraft is capable of carrying nine passengers and two pilots. Apex pilots and technicians completed their flight and maintenance training in a dedicated program held in Italy earlier this year. The second aircraft is scheduled to join the fleet in 2022, with six additional options.
The introduction of the aircraft into the Apex fleet provides their customers with cost-effective and various configuration options, while always offering experiences that exceed passenger’s expectation, such as air-conditioning, in-seat power, widest leg-room in its class and under-seat storage space.
Cutting-edge avionics by Garmin offers pilots all the information they require for day, night, IFR and PBN operations, making operations to any airfield another key factor in the choice of aircraft.
Apex Chairman Wilson Kao (高健祐) announced that Apex will be introducing sightseeing air tours and aerial photography services alongside its training academy initially. According to the chairman, the company is working with travel agencies to introduce the very first aerial tours in Taiwan that take passengers to see the picturesque mountains canyon and coast of Eastern Taiwan that has never been explored aerially in the past.
